MONTH SIX — the month of the diuretic herb

Garbhini Paricharya · Masanumasika · महीना ६

Month six carries a detail that always impresses me. Ghee continues — now medicated with sweet-tasting herbs. But Acharya Sushruta introduces something new: ghee or rice gruel prepared with Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris).

The heart of month six: medicated ghee, and Gokshura.

Gokshura is a diuretic. And month six is precisely when many mothers begin to swell — ankles, feet, fingers. A herb chosen for fluid retention, prescribed in the exact month fluid retention typically begins. That is not coincidence; that is observation, recorded and passed down.

What to eat

  • Ghee from milk-butter, medicated with sweet-tasting herbs
  • Ghee or rice gruel prepared with Gokshura
  • Sweetened curd (Harita)

What to avoid

  • Excess salt, which worsens swelling
  • Long hours standing or sitting without moving the legs
  • Very heavy evening meals

One caution Gokshura is a genuine medicine, not a kitchen spice. Dose and form belong to your physician, not to a chart.
