Garbhini Paricharya · Masanumasika · महीना ५
By month five, butter becomes ghee. Every major Acharya converges here — Acharya Charaka, Acharya Sushruta, Acharya Vagbhata — on ghee prepared from butter drawn from milk. Around it: rice cooked in milk, rice gruel made with milk, sweetened milk-rice.
The heart of month five: ghee, and rice cooked in milk.
What to eat
- Ghee prepared from milk-butter
- Shashtika rice cooked with milk
- Rice gruel prepared in milk
- Sweetened rice cooked in milk (Harita)
What to avoid
- Dry, rough, or very light meals — this is not a month for austerity
- Irregular eating times
- Anything that leaves you heavy for hours afterwards
Why ghee, and why now Ghee in Ayurveda is not merely fat. It is the classical carrier — the substance that takes the qualities of whatever it is cooked with into the deeper tissues. In a month when the baby’s tissues are being laid down, the texts choose the food that travels furthest inward.
