Garbhini Paricharya · Masanumasika · महीना ७
The seventh month is the month of vridhi — visible growth. The regimen answers with its most concentrated nourishment yet: ghee medicated with the Vidarigandhadi group of herbs, chosen, Acharya Sushruta says, for the proper growth and development of the child. Acharya Harita offers ghritakhanda, a sweet preparation made in ghee — proof that the classical texts understood a craving as well as a nutrient.
The heart of month seven: ghee with Vidarigandhadi herbs.
What to eat
- Ghee medicated with sweet-tasting herbs
- Ghee prepared with the Vidarigandhadi (Prithakparnyadi) group
- Ghritakhanda — a sweet ghee preparation
What to avoid
- Large single meals — the growing uterus leaves less room; eat smaller, more often
- Very oily fried food (not the same as ghee, whatever the internet says)
- Late, heavy dinners
What this group of herbs is for Vidarigandhadi is described as nourishing and building, easing depletion, and settling excess pitta and kapha — all of which matter in a month when the mother is carrying visibly more and often sleeping visibly less.
